Most of our Reclaimed Oak beams
were originally hewn
(whittled) by hand with a broad ax or an adz. Oak is already a very hard
wood, but curing for 150 years in cold Pennsylvania winters and hot
summers make these reclaimed oak beams extremely strong.
The barns from which we reclaim these beams were put
together by hand using mortise and tenon style construction. The mortise
pockets and the peg holes in these beams as well as the century of weather
add unique and historic character to our reclaimed oak beams that is
impossible to reproduce.
