BENEFITS OF RECLAIMED WOOD
Reclaimed wood is popular
for many reasons: the reclaimed timber’s
exquisite and unique look, its environmental contribution as a recycled
green building material, the historical aspect of the wood’s origins and
character, and its physical attributes such as strength and durability.
Many of the reclaimed woods offered by The Woodshop of Texas are only available in large
qualities through reclamation. In the past, wood was the primary building
material because it was strong, relatively inexpensive, and abundant.
Today, however, certain types of wood are no longer available except as
reclaimed wood. The rarity of these reclaimed woods will add quality and
value to your home or project.
The positive environmental impact
of using
reclaimed wood grows every year. It
is recycling at its “high end” finest. Reclaimed wood is a wonderful green
building material, and by using these recycled woods, you will help to
preserve our natural resources and lessen the burden on our landfills.
With our custom milling facility, we are able to recycle the reclaimed
wood into flooring, beams, staircases, and trusses that will be stunning
additions to your home or remodeling project.
The historical character
of reclaimed wood
material is unparalleled.
The Woodshop of Texas keeps track of the sources for our entire reclaimed
inventory, and can identify what your floor or beam package was over the
past hundred years.
Antique hardwoods’ physical attributes
cannot be
matched by contemporary
products found in today’s marketplace. The majority of the historical
structures from which we obtain our reclaimed wood were built with virgin
growth timber, which had hundreds of years to grow before man touched
them. In some cases, the timbers from which the boards were cut have been
slightly expanding and contracting for over a century, adding to their
extraordinary strength and durability.
