> ANTIQUE HEART PINE
Antique Heart Pine is a
superb choice for flooring,
beams, and staircases, adding stunning character and depth to any room.
The versatility of this reclaimed wood allows for many options, both
in pricing and look. Durability and natural warm pumpkin tones are
trademarks of Antique Heart Pine.
Antique Heart
Pine was abundant in the Southeast region
of our country
when it was first discovered. Heart Pine contained a very
dense wood that made it ideal for construction, and it was the primary
building material in this country until it started to become extinct
around the 1920’s.
Some of the
living trees were saved and the species still exists, although the majority is now
protected by the U.S. Forest Service. Today The Woodshop of Texas recycles
millions of board feet of reclaimed Heart Pine from factories and
warehouses all over
the country. The years it served in a factory,
warehouse, boat, etc. have cured the
lumber so that it is rich in color and very stable from further warping or
twisting. Reclaimed Heart Pine timbers that are structurally sound are
used for exposed beams, and all other products are recycled at our milling
facility into vintage flooring, stair treads, cabinet materials, and more.
In the
hundreds of years it takes for Heart Pines to mature,
the trees grow tall and straight with minimal limbs, offering great
strength and not a lot of knots. Antique Heart Pine has extremely tight
growth rings, and its strength is such that the keel of the USS
Constitution, “Old Ironsides,” was made from a single Heart Pine timber.
The resin within reclaimed Heart Pine adds to its durability, and also
serves as somewhat of a natural repellant against termites and other
wood boring insects.
