RECLAIMED DOUGLAS FIR
Reclaimed Douglas Fir
is usually salvaged in very large quantities. The
Douglas Fir tree can grow to incredible diameters and heights, and was an
ideal resource for large
factories and warehouses. We
have seen Douglas Fir beams as large as 36” x 42” and up to 65 feet in
length.
This species grows in the
north
and northwest region of our country,
so while
we have recycled Douglas Fir from structures as far south
as
Georgia, Douglas Fir is much more often found in the area from Chicago
west to the Pacific Ocean.
A handsome, straight grain
pattern
and colors ranging from pink to pumpkin
are typical of Reclaimed Douglas Fir. Its color will redden over time with
exposure to light, making the rustic beauty of Douglas Fir a popular
choice for ski lodges and resorts.
The Woodshop of
Texas
offers reclaimed and fresh cut Douglas Fir flooring, staircases,
beams, and custom milled siding. The patina and the grain
patterns of Reclaimed Douglas Fir are almost identical to that of Antique Heart Pine; however, when
processed to flooring, Douglas Fir is not as durable.
