RECLAIMED CYPRESS
Antique Cypress is generally
salvaged in coastal areas of the southeast. Louisiana was a source for much of the salvaged Antique
Cypress; however, due to hurricanes such as
Rita and Katrina, the supply
has been greatly diminished. Although it is found primarily in the South,
Cypress can be shipped anywhere and adapts well to almost all geographic
conditions.
The old growth Cypress trees
grew alongside of the Heart Pine
forests, but the Cypress tree grew more commonly in the swampy coastal
areas. Many of our customers are substituting the Heart Pine in place of
the Antique Cypress. Grain patterns and color of the two species are
somewhat similar as are the strength and load capacities.
At this time
finding beams of any quantity and size is
rather difficult leaving flooring as our primary product in the Antique
Cypress. The flooring is very durable as the Antique Cypress has very
tight growth rings and a natural resistance to decay and
insects. Reclaimed Cypress can range in colors from a reddish color to a
rich brown, with an interesting and unique grain pattern.
