Barn
wood siding is one of our most
common sources
for reclaimed wood. Barns constructed up through the early part of the
19th century were typically built using whatever trees were
immediately available, and beam sizes were limited to what could be moved
by horse. They often contain a mixed blend of oak, chestnut and other
woods including hickory, poplar, and pine. The wood was either hand hewn
using an axe or squared with an adze.
We salvage most of our Reclaimed Barn Wood
from family barns built
between 1830 and 1900 in the
Ohio/Pennsylvania/Virginia region of our country.
Barn Wood is an
exceptional green building material, as every component of these old barns
is salvaged, cleaned up and recycled.
To
salvage Barn Wood, we
begin by taking the siding off the sides of the barn; this product is
great when used on ceilings and walls. The historic look and character of
150 years of weathering are impossible to reproduce.
Reclaimed barn wood siding
has the versatility
to be used straight out of the barn or milled to a clean finish, and the
material can be used anywhere in your project.
